All Saints Day, they say, is when ghosts roam all around us. They add that the souls of our dear departed visit us and join us in our daily living these last days of October leading to the eve of All Saints Day.
In fact, they say, their souls are right here with us at home, in the rooms they used to occupy, in the seats they used to sit in, and using their plates and glass and spoons and forks. And sometimes, in intense moments, they tend to suddenly appear to us so that some people claim to see grandpa or grandma standing there or sitting here or walking in the garden.
Tradition also says these souls prepare themselves to meet us when we go to the cemetery to visit their tombs. They wait for us there at the gate of the cemetery and happily welcome us as we approach it. They stay with us as we keep vigil on their tombs and fellowship there and eat snacks. They are said to even listen to us as we talk and are glad to see their grand children again.
Well, these are all great to hear about and endears us more to our dead relatives. But none of them is true.
Here's the WHOLE Truth about It ALL!
The dead can NEVER go back to join the living. Once you die your soul and spirit is taken to God for judgment. Then you're sent to either heaven or hell. Period. And there you stay, permanently, without having any breaks or vacations to go back to earth and spend time with your family during All Saints Day or All Souls Day or Halloween. That's what the Holy Bible says. That's the whole truth about it.
The dead, however, see what's happening on earth. They see what's become of us and what kind of people we're turning out to be in our lives. They see that but they can't relate or communicate anymore with us.
In the revealing story about the Rich Man and Lazarus in the New Testament (told by Jesus Himself), the rich man, after being sent to hell, saw his brothers' need to know about the reality of hell. So he asked Abraham to be sent back to earth to warn his brothers.
Here, the truth is shown that, first, dead persons, while in the afterlife, are aware of what's happening on earth, specifically the spiritual conditions (spiritual needs) of those still alive. Second, they can NEVER go back to earth because of the big gap that separates them and the living.
Thus, during All Saints Day, souls of the dead are NEVER back home or back to their graves waiting for us to visit them. And it's okay if we don't get to visit them on All Saints. That's not their concern anymore. Their concern is our spiritual condition. Whether they're in heaven or hell, their concern is to have us warned about the reality of hell.
Of course, they can NEVER go back here to warn us. We have preachers and people who share the Word of God truthfully with us to warn us. That's enough warning. We don't need the dead going back here to tell us the truth.
